She said, "Of Course!"

Ok here are the juicy details for those of you who still do this Xanga stuff.

On Saturday night I think I slept only a few minutes because I was so nervous and excited about what was to happen on Sunday.  I had told Melissa earlier in the week that I wanted to go to Morkami Gardens as a New Years tradition to be... I was also trying to put it in her head that I was going to propose sometime in late January when my parents were around. Now on with the evening...

First of all we were running late to get over to the gardens because they close at 5PM. I'm driving like a mad-man trying to get there before they close. We arrive at 4:50 PM., I give the guy our tickets (which were comps from 3 years ago because Busta was shooting a video there), he says, "are you sure you want to use these? You'll only get in for a few minutes". I say, "I know, we just want to catch the sunset".  The other person working there is like, "you won't even get down to the water before security escorts you back up."  I responded with, "no worries, just let us in and we'll see what happens."  They give me some strange looks but eventually consede. We walk through the lobby and out onto the terrace. The place was getting ready for a wedding, we walk past the spot where the couple would exchange their vows. (there is a good chance we will get married here)  We walk over a bridge and find a nice bench over looking the lake.  We get to the bench and out comes my hand-written journal of all our best memories. I've dated each page as if I wrote it over the years. Some of the titles were, "the day we met" or "the day I began to fall in love". Cheesy yes, but it works.  I don't let her read word for word every entry because I know time is short.  She finally gets to the last page dated, "December 31st, 2006."  It opens with, "Here we are at Morkiami Museum and Gardens..."  It describe this "gift" to her as a culmination of 1997 days since we first met.  It reads so the "gift" could be the journal itself.  At the end is a romantical poem that I actually wrote...The last line says, "Look up".... no I didn't hire a sky writer. I just meant for her to look up from the book.  So she looks up at me as I get down on bended knee.... I say some more heart-felt words as she is beaming with suprise and joy.  I almost forgot to actually say, "will you marry me".  I bust out the rock which had actually gotten stuck in my pocket so I had been wrestling with the box in my pocket while she read.  It was perfect, sunset on the water, romantical atmosphere, nobody was around because they had all headed back up to the lobby due to closing time.  Melissa was looking gorgeous as she always does.  At first she was literally speechless, when finally she wraps her arms around my neck and says the most important two words of my life so far, ..."Of Course!" I put the rock on her finger and it fits almost perfectly! A very tiny re-sizement might be necessary but it definitely won't be falling off.  And if I may say so, the ring looked so amazing on her hand.  I could not have felt any dreamier or happier at that moment.

After that all she kept saying was, "I'm engaged!"  Just in time the grumpy security guard shows up and tells us to move along.  We headed up to the lobby and I tell the attendant thanks for letting us in because I just got engaged.  He laughs and says that the other lady called it by saying that she thought I was going to propose because I was so persistent about getting in for 10 minutes.

We get to the car and after she's in, I go to the trunk and bust out a bouquet of 2 dozen roses.  I tell her that we are going to eat, just me and her.  We get to the restaurant and lookie, lookie, her mom, Jesse and Janneth, Brenda and Steve and my roomie Jordan are all there.  Let's just say it was perfect, Melissa was flying high and told me that it could not have been any more memorable and right.  Since I did it on New Years eve we even had fireworks and tons of people celebrating with us. To all you guys out there, make it memorable, you're only going to do this once in your life. You don't have to out do the other guy, your woman just has to love it.

I'll post some pictures tomorrow of us at the restaurant.   .... click photos at the top
